HOW TO HAVE THE BEST POSSIBLE READING

1. The "channel" (often referred to as a "medium") must have a true gift for discerning the spirits. There are people out there who don't have the gift, know they don't have it, and are conducting fraudulent readings to prey upon the grieving; there are people out there who don't have the gift but who earnestly think they do and who try their honest best to present a real reading but simply fail; and there are people out there who are truly gifted and who do their best as well and usually are successful.

A word about "negative energy". There are some "channels" who will claim that a proper reading could not be done due to negative energy on the part of the person the reading was for, or on the part of other people present. If the "channel" is a fraud, this can serve as an excuse for why a reading was extremely general. However, true "channels" can fail also to clearly "get" someone in a reading, and negative energy can certainly play a part in the failure. When a "channel" knows that disbelief is strong, this knowledge can serve as a significant distraction to the "channel" and interfere with a "channel's" ability to focus clearly on the task at hand.

If one wants a good reading, select a "channel" whose reputation precedes him/her. A "channel" who is known to be normally quite accurate and detailed, is a worthwhile "channel" to try.

2. Go to the reading prepared. If the reading is good, if it is accurate and detailed, one will have more confidence in it if one takes the following precautions.

A. Clothing
Select clothing that gives few clues or none as to your personality, lifestyle, and work. If possible, wear something casual and plain. In other words, don't let your clothing provide hints that a "channel" might pick up on, even unintentionally, to indicate something particular about you.

B. Jewelry
Wear none, or if some is worn keep it plain and nondescript, or keep it out of sight. Again, jewelry can provide clues to personality and lifestyle that an unscrupulous "channel" can use to make educated guesses, and that influence even the most honest "channel" unintentionally.

C. Talking
Many "channels" will ask some questions and request that  you answer Yes or No to them. There is some value to making these answers – even a perfectly good and scrupulous "channel" may need an assurance now and then that he/she is on the right track with someone who is coming through, and you can assist. However, keep your answers to simply Yes or No when at all possible – do not begin to ramble with further statements or explanations that may give a "channel" more information. If you are uncertain whether to say Yes or  No, try simply saying "Go on" or "I'm not sure" to the "channel" to see if he/she is able to come up with something more. Some "channels", and they may well be quite honest and even truly gifted, will be curious about something they pick up, and may ask questions solely for this reason – where possible, indicate that you will explain and answer the questions after the conclusion of the reading.

D. Making other sounds
Besides talking, one can give clues to a "channel" by making other sounds. Gasps, sighs, and other such responses are to be avoided if at all possible.

E. Movements
Movements such as letting one's hands fly to one's face in surprise, or raising of eyebrows, or even nervous movements of the hands, can provide clues to a "channel". Try to sit still with hands folded in the lap, and control one's facial expressions where possible.

If you take the above precautions and have a good reading, you will come away from the reading having much more confidence in it. You will be less likely to later look back upon it and think to yourself, "Gee, I'm not sure now that what I was told was really from my loved one, because I did say and do something here and there which could have caused the "channel" to get this or that idea from me."
