A new commandment I give you, that you love
one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no one
than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. God is love. Whoever lives
in love lives in God, and God in him. We love,

God is Love itself and Wisdom itself, these two making up His Essence.
God is Good itself and Truth itself, because Good refers to Love and Truth to Wisdom.
Love itself and Wisdom itself constitute Life itself, or Life in itself.
Love and Wisdom are one in God.
The essence of love is loving others than oneself, wishing to be one with them, and to devoting oneself to their happiness...This third essential of God's love, to devote Himself to the happiness of others, is to be recognized in everlasting life, which is blessedness, bliss and happiness without end, which He gives to those who receive His love into themselves.
For God, just as He is Love itself, is also blessedness itself. For every love breathes out an aura of joy from itself, and the Divine Love breathes out the very height of blessedness, bliss and happiness for ever; so God makes the angels and men after death happy from Himself, which He does by being linked with them.
These properties of the Divine Love were the reason the universe was created, and are the reason it is preserved in existence.
